Pursuing a better option for Group B Strep.

A study is underway for a vaccine aimed at the prevention of group B streptococcal disease in young children by the active immunization of pregnant moms.

Group B streptococcus (GBS) is most frequently found in the very young—newborns and infants. GBS can cause more serious illness in infants, including sepsis, meningitis, pneumonia, and death. Pregnant women may be particularly susceptible to GBS disease as well.
