DID YOU KNOW?

• COVID-19: Stands for Coronavirus Disease 2019, for when this virus began infecting humans

• There are seven known coronaviruses that infect humans: three of them originated in animals and have caused the last three outbreaks - SARS (2003) MERS (2012) and SARS-2/Covid-19 (2019)

COVID-19 Investigational Vaccine

Together we’ve experienced a significant health crisis that we hope we’ll only see once in our lifetime. During trying times for so many, maybe you have asked yourself, what can I do to help? Be Well Clinical Studies is running a clinical trial testing a preventive vaccine for COVID-19. Here’s our collective opportunity to contribute to the cause.

How is this investigational vaccine different than the others on the market currently?

This investigational vaccine is developed differently than the currently available ‘emergency-use’ vaccines.

Clinical trials for COVID-19 investigational vaccine have been underway since July 2020. This study successfully produced a Virus-Like Particle (VLP) of the coronavirus just 20 days after obtaining the SARS-CoV-2 (virus causing the COVID-19 disease) gene in March 2020.

This study uses a plant-based platform to develop its vaccines. (The mRNA-based vaccines are chemically synthesized.) This approach uses living plants as bioreactors to produce non-infectious versions of viruses (called Virus-Like Particles or VLPs). VLPs mimic the native structure of viruses, helping them to be easily recognized by the immune system. However, they lack core genetic material which makes them non-infectious and unable to replicate.

Volunteers for this trial will be 18 years old or older and have not contracted COVID-19.  Participants will be asked to complete 10 study visits, 2 phone calls, and completed study diary entries. Everyone who completes the study will be assigned to receive the investigational vaccine to prevent COVID-19, and will be compensated for time and travel.
